Perinatal Mortality Report Stage 1

Completed (June 2013)

Stage 1

Perinatal deaths are sentinel events in maternity care that point to the health and wellbeing of women and the care they received during pregnancy and childbirth. However there is currently no standardised data for key information required to report perinatal mortality in relation to maternity services. The aim of this project was to investigate the production of a prototype for reporting on perinatal mortality. The objective was to consider the options for standardising perinatal mortality data that can be reported using perinatal death data integrated with perinatal and maternity information. Potential data sources were reviewed and a Perinatal Mortality Reporting Issues Paper was provided to the NMDDP Advisory Committee that will inform Stage 2 of this project.
