Associate Professor Georgina Chambers is the Director of the National Perinatal Epidemiology and Statistics Unit (NPESU). The NPESU is a leading national agency for epidemiological and statistical information on reproductive technology, pregnancy, childbirth the health and care of newborns. It is a joint unit of the Center for Big Data Research in Health (CBDHR) and the School of Women's and Children's Health, UNSW Medicine.
Associate Professor Chambers has 20 years experience in the Australian public and private healthcare sectors in health economics, public health research, medical science and health services management. Since joining the NPESU in 2004, Dr Chambers has built a significant research career and international reputation in perinatal health services research, policy analysis and health economics. Her qualifications include a PhD in Health Economics, an MBA [Director's Award], a BAppSci(MLS) [Dux], and a Grad Diploma(Computing).
Associate Professor Chambers is a leading international expert on health economics & policy analysis of assisted reproductive technologies. She established the first research team dedicated to this field in 2010, supported by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Fellowship and ARC Linkage Grant awarded the year after her PhD. Since 2010, Dr Chambers has attracted $5.2 million in NHMRC and ARC research funding as a Chief Investigator.
Her methodological areas of expertise include econometric policy evaluation using Australian Medicare data and linked administrative datasets, health services costing and research, epidemiology, and economic evaluation of healthcare technologies and programs.
Associate Professor Chambers is a regular lecturer in health economics in the UNSW MBBS program and is a primary supervisor of a number of higher degree students.
